Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. Cataracts typically cause blurred vision or glare and can occur at different rates. They can affect one or both eyes at the same time. This clouding is normally due to an ageing process, but it can also be secondary to other diseases or medications.
Your cataract can be treated safely and effectively using a microsurgical technique. An artificial lens is implanted into the eye to replace the cataract. Mr Porteous will discuss with you in detail the most appropriate lens choices available.
Mr Porteous predominantly undertakes the surgery using topical anaesthetic but a local anaesthetic injection or intravenous sedation can be used if required. The surgery is a day-case procedure and only one eye is operated on at a time.
